Nowashe Village features two wigwams, a classroom-sized Sachem’s House, a Three Sisters Garden, multiple gathering and learning spaces and woodland trails lined with ethno-botanical plantings.

Nowashe’s trails are wide and are as ADA compliant as possible. We recommend that you wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. Nowashe Village is sprayed regularly to repell mosquitos and ticks. Permanent Artifact displays and restrooms are available inside the adjacent Wood Memorial Library & Museum.

Nowashe is open for the 2023 season!

Nowashe Village is open seasonally on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am to 4:30pm. While there is no admission fee for these general operating hours, donations are appreciated. Robust QR code signs provide a self-guided tour for a look at the history and way of life of local Indigenous Peoples, as well as the village’s structures and gardens.

The Village is also open on select days for special events with suggested admission fees. Each program highlights a different theme, which change with the seasons, just like the wooded landscape and gardens. These topics include stone tools and domestic arts and usually features special guests. Highlights for 2023 include the 4th Annual Artifact Identification Day on June 10, 3rd Annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration on October 9, Connecticut waterways, pottery and more! Visit our calendar for a look at what each program has to offer!

We also welcome private groups for field trips, in-depth tours and other customizable options.
