Strawberry Moon Celebration
Join us in celebrating the Strawberry Moon! New England’s Native Peoples celebrate their Strawberry Thanksgiving in conjunction with June’s full moon. Some tribal nations choose to celebrate this time with a small gathering of families and tribes, whereas others gather with Native and non-Native peoples alike to create a vibrant public celebration. Included with admission will be Native American Storytelling, strawberry-themed crafts and more!
Village Read-Aloud: Join Nowashe’s resident Storyteller Joan Degen as she tells the Legend of the Strawberry Moon and other Indigenous strawberry tales such as The Strawberry Thanksgiving story, First Woman and the Strawberries,(a Cherokee Story), and How Chipmunk Got its Stripes from 1-3pm. Suitable for all ages.
Everything Strawberry!: Join us at the Village craft table for cut-out and color Happy Strawberry coloring pages, Strawberry painted rocks and Strawberry pendant necklace or bracelet crafts.
Artifact Display Case: Mortar and pestle, scrapers and drills.
Admission to Nowashe Village always includes a multimedia self-guided tour on your personal electronic device, a look at a special Native American artifact in our Archaeology Display Case, explorer activity for the kids and stationed docents ready to answer your questions.
