Stone Tool Technology and the Importance of Waterways in Indigenous Life

“The Importance of Waterways in Indigenous Life,” will be presented by Dylan Smith (Shinnecock/Montauk/Unkechaug Tribal Nations). Why were regional waterways, such as the Connecticut River, crucial to Indigenous People’s survival? In what ways do they remain so today and what are the threats facing our waterways?

Let’s Explore! Stone Tool Technology with Primitive Technologist Jim Dina. Discover how South Windsor’s Native People transformed natural items into tools, weapons, tying materials, ropes, mats and clothing. Learn close-up and first-hand how to weave Cordage, flint knapp (shape rocks to make stone tools), and drill holes into slate using a replicated pump drill.
